Our wedding and love are a political act because there is little to no separation between our political lives and our personal ones. Just 5 years ago, our marriage was not recognized as valid under US law. It took the US Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges for the legality of same-sex marriage to be recognized in all 50 states.

The two of us are incredibly privileged in a multitude of ways, one being having the love and support of you - our family and friends. Our aim is to harness that privilege, as we all should, recognize it, and make the world better for those who are not afforded our same rights and resources.

Black lives matter (and MORE than matter) and have been made oppressed by the US government in various forms of racist policy, action, and doctrine since the founding of this country. Healthcare, access to clean water, women's reproductive rights, trans rights, disability rights, and more, are inalienable human rights. Yet black trans women are the most vulnerable population in our country. We, as women, do not do right by ourselves, our sisters, and our feminism while any of us are under attack in such a vicious way.

These are just some of the beliefs we hold close to our hearts, while also having much more learning, growing and action to do. As friends, relatives, and very important people in our lives,  we request that you will keep in mind our values as you celebrate with us in our joyful, and political, act of love for each other
